Henna How To's - 3

"Flowers... are a proud assertion that a ray
of beauty out values all the utilities of  the world"

Emerson's quote emulates the fabulosity of these entities perfectly. Flowers are widely considered as crucial elements to all types of Henna Art;  Arabic, East African and Indian. Because they bring a certain type of beauty and elegance, designs rarely look complete without them.

Flowers in Mehndi come in many unique shapes and sizes and  are usually made up of a circular center surrounded by petals.

The commonly used petal designs are illustrated below

The Spiked petals are a little harder to master so here is a pictorial to make things easier

  • Practice drawing single petals on their own with a pencil and a piece of paper.

  • Then practice drawing them at different orientations.  Facing Left, facing right,  up,  down and diagonal lol.  It may seem like a lot but trust me, it helps. You may find it easy to draw one on its own but when you have to draw them around a circular center, it starts getting complicated. Even experienced artists struggle with this sometimes

  • Once you have practiced drawing the petals on their own and in different directions you can proceed to practicing the different center shapes listed bellow with your flowers.

Don't worry if you still don't get it on the first try. It takes a lot of practice. I personally took three weeks to finally get it right. To help clarify things even more I have put together a video to help.

Hope you found this useful. Stay tuned for more!
